notebooklm-py: let Claude turn your files into podcasts
The free tool from the reel is teng-lin/notebooklm-py, an unofficial Python library, command line tool and Claude Code skill for Google's Gemini Notebook (Google renamed NotebookLM to Gemini Notebook in July 2026; it's the same product). Claude adds your sources, asks questions, makes Audio Overviews (podcasts) and more, and downloads the results to your computer.

What you need first
brew install uv.Step by step
Install it
In Terminal: uv tool install "notebooklm-py[browser]" (or pipx install "notebooklm-py[browser]").

Give Claude the skill
Run notebooklm skill install. It adds the skill to Claude Code. Open a new Claude Code session after that.
Ask for a podcast
Tell Claude something like: "Make a new notebook, add these three PDFs, and make an Audio Overview podcast. Download it to this folder." Generating can take several minutes.
Make more from the same sources
Ask for a video overview, a slide deck, a quiz or flashcards from the same notebook. Say "download all of them" to get every file at once.

The catch
- It's unofficial. It uses Google's undocumented APIs and isn't affiliated with Google, so a change on Google's side can break it until the maintainers update it.
- Rate limits. Heavy use can get throttled. Source limits per notebook depend on your Google account tier.
- Your Google login lives on your computer. Keep it on your own machine and don't share the saved login files.
- Check the output. The podcast is AI-generated from your sources. Listen before you share it, especially numbers and names.
